“As far as the state of jazz in the year 2010 and in the future, Heath remains hopeful.” – Bill Milkowski
Jimmy Heath and Albert “Tootie” Heath, the last surviving members of the iconic Heath Brothers, are a cornerstone of jazz history. Both together and as solo artists, they shaped the sound of modern jazz, preserving Philadelphia’s rich legacy of creativity, rhythm, and artistry. Their careers include collaborations and recordings with an incredible array of jazz legends such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and Ella Fitzgerald, among others.
The Opportunity: The new album by the Heath Brothers was a highly anticipated release, carrying even greater meaning as it was their first recording since the passing of Percy Heath. The importance of this moment went beyond simply marketing or distributing their music. The legacy of these remarkable brothers had to be recognized in a way that reflected the depth of their influence and contributions to the world of music.
